Surface holographic memory can be expected as a new optical memory that has different characteristics from conventional holographic memory. However, higher-order diffracted light and degeneracy of gratings caused by Raman-Nath diffraction reduce the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of reconstructed signal and multiplicity of hologram. Therefore, we proposed that these noises can be reduced by designing a surface type hologram without grating overlapping, and we showed it from both the numerical simulation and the experimental data.
