Attention has been focused on coating processes that use pure impact pressure or impact force, such as aerosol deposition (AD) and cold spray (CS) methods. By accelerating fine particles and ultrafine particles to several hundred m/s or more, colliding them with the substrate, and supplying pure mechanical energy, a dense and high-adhesion film can be formed. In the 1970s, such a process started as a coating technique using an electrostatic particle accelerator used for research on space debris. We call the phenomenon in which fine particles and ultrafine particles collide at high speed and make the raw material particles finer and solidify under high pressure at room temperature, as the Room Temperature Impact Consolidation (RTIC). Here, we introduce the relationship between the history of such a process and similar phenomena related to the RTIC phenomenon, and the development as applied technology, along with examples of commercialization.
