It is considered that the strong electric field inside the SiNx layer on the surface of photovoltaic cell is a factor promoting potential induced degradation (PID). Therefore, the electric field strength inside the SiNx layer was analyzed in three dimensions for the cell surfaces with the pyramid and flat structures. The analysis results showed that the electric field was 5.6 times larger in the convex portion of the pyramid structure than that for the flat structure. These findings suggest that PID occurs possibly depending on the cell surface structure.
