[14a-D311-9] Production of amino acids by use of an intermittent arc discharge

Tetsu Mieno1 (1.Shizuoka Univ.)

Keywords:arc discharge, synthesis of amino acids, CN radical

We are intersted in synthesis of amino acids in space. By the impact experiment, we found that amino acids can be produced in a hog gas plume, where CN radicals are effectively generated. Here, I predicted that CN radicals could be produced by the intermittent arc discharge in nitrogen gas, and I carried out the experiment using carbon electrodes and nitrogen-methane mixed gas. As a result, considerable amount of amino acids can be produced by short discharges (10 sec, times). I believe that amino acids could be efficiently produced by this arc discharge method.
