Keywords:semiconductor, rare earth hydride, 4f level

A rare earth trihydride (RH3 R: rare earth element: R3+) semiconductor has a valence band mainly composed of hydrogen 1s orbitals. In the case of there are electrons at the 4f level, that level is much deeper than the Fermi level. On the other hand, rare earth dihydride (RH2 :R3+ excluding Eu and Yb) is a metal, but EuH2 and YbH2(R2+)are semiconductors, and the 4f level is considered to be close to the Fermi level. This time, we were interested in the position of the 4f level, and performed the optical measurement of the YbH2 thin film.
