[14p-B309-11] Dressed photon study as the touchstone of developing quantum field theory

Keywords:dressed photon, quantum field

During the last two years, we have developed a new model of dressed photon (DP) by introducing a novel notion of Clebsch dual (CD) electromagnetic field. CD field is the extension of Maxwell’ equation into the spacelike momentum sector. The reason why we introduced such a new notion is because the Greenberg and Robinson (GR) theorem in axiomatic quantum field theory claims that non-trivial interactions among quantum fields must accompany spacelike momentum support. In spite of the importance of GR theorem, we can say that its consequence has not been implemented explicitly into the conventional quantum field theory in which the interaction among quantum fields is dealt exclusively with the perturbation method. So, it is quite difficult for us to have a physical image of the involvement of spacelike momentum. In this talk, we show that, though not directly related to the dressed photon dynamics in electromagnetism, there exists a concrete example of the involvement of spacelike momentum in the general theory of relativity. Based on the partial parallelism between electromagnetism and gravity, we discuss the peculiar position DP takes in electromagnetism.
