The changes of geometric and electronic structures induced by bromine doping onto the perylene monolayer on a Au(111) surface is studied by scanning tunneling microscopy and X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy at the near carbon K-edge. At the initial stage, bromine molecules adsorbed in line on the 4x4 super structure of perylene and induce a partial charge transfer. As the doping amount increases, perylene molecules are cationized and form another two-dimensional super structure with an enlarged lattice constant.
