The electronic properties of Cu nanoparticles grown on R- and O-TiO2(110) substrates were analyzed by photoelectron and secondary electrons spectroscopy using SR light. As a result, the all O 2s and Ti 3p lines for R-TiO2 and O-TiO2 show higher EB shifts up to Cu coverage of 0.5 ML and then decrease almost linearly with increase Cu coverage. The work functions for both surfaces decrease abruptly by a small amount of Cu deposition. The Ti 3d defect state intensity increases after Cu deposition. These results suggest that Cu nanoparticles react with oxygen of the TiO2(110) surface and then Cu nanoparticles is oxidized.
