[15a-A408-3] Bistability in Hybrid Aligned Nematic Liquid Crystal Cells with Microscale Orientation Patterns

In the twisted nematic liquid crystal (LC) cells with periodic alignment patterns, bistable LC molecular orientation properties can be obtained in association with a change in the disclination strength. We present fundamental bistable characteristics that occurred in hybrid aligned nematic LC cells by introducing microscale rubbing patterns.
