Keywords:radial polarization, polarization control, CO2 laser

We are studying an axially excited pulsed CO2 laser that can freely control the time waveform, beam quality and polarization of the output. We developed an oscillator that outputs a cylindrical vector beam, an arbitrary polarization rotator, and an automatic polarization-state visualizer. The visualizer is comprised of a rotating polarizer and a beam profiler camera, and it automatically calculates the cross-sectional polarization distribution in 20 seconds. The converter outputs azimuthal, radial, or any intermediate polarizations. In the intermediate state, focused beam exhibits characteristic focusing intensity distributions, thus new application of material processing is expected.
