The placenta is a multifunctional organ that is temporarily formed and indispensable in the process of pregnancy. Research on the mechanism of human placental development is important for the pathophysiology of perinatal diseases and the development of new medicines for them, but little is known about it. Studying the human placenta has been limited due to the large species differences and other factors. In this study, we aim to develop an in vitro model that mimics the function and structure of the human placenta. We developed a microfluidic device that can evaluate the invasion and replacement ability of maternal blood vessels that is one of the functions of the human placenta.
