△ [10a-N401-2] Visualization of Oxygen 2p Orbital by Electron Microscopy

Electron orbitals characterize various physical property so that is important. STEM-EELS can provide atomic images and energy-loss spectra simultaneously and has been expected to visualize electron orbitals. In this work, we accumulated thousands of spectrum-image data to improve S/N ratio and constructed two dimensional maps using the intensity of the first and second peaks in oxygen K-edge spectrum in rutile TiO₂. The map with the first peak is different from that with the second peak, which reflects the spatial distribution of O 2p orbital contributing to each peak.
