[10a-S402-8] Evaluation of connection properties in neuronal networks by using transfer entropy

Information processing in the brain is based on the dynamics of neural activity transmitted through synapses in neural networks. By measuring extracellular potentials using a multi-electrode array (MEA) and analyzing the electrical data, neural networks have been shown to work synchronously to process information. However, most of the previous analyses have focused on the temporal dynamics and synchronization of neural activity, and there has been insufficient discussion of the spatial propagation of neural activity in the network. Therefore, in this study, we applied the transfer entropy to the neural activity data measured by MEA to analyze the connection properties between neurons. As a result, information propagation was successfully evaluated by using transfer entropy from neural activity spike data. This result indicates that the transfer entropy is effective for analyzing the connection properties of neural networks.
