Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C₃N₄) is gathering attention as a photocatalyst. Since it has layered structure, the exfoliation of the layers is effective to enhance the acivity. We invented a new technique to use sugers as aids to exfoliate g-C₃N₄by mechanical milling. We found that the exfoliation increases the bandgap, which has negative effects to visible light activities, and attempted to introduce defects by air oxidization.
