Keywords:silicon photonics, directional coupler

A directional coupler is one of the most fundamental passive building blocks of photonic integrated circuits (PICs) based on silicon photonics and can be used to build an optical unitary circuit which is a basic circuit of PICs for deep learning and quantum application. One drawback of a conventional directional coupler is its large wavelength dependence. In this study we designed an asymmetric directional coupler where one of the waveguide is narrower then the other. By introdusing such a asymmetric structutre, the wavelength dependence can be improved.
