[11a-N301-7] Visualization of Thermal Field on a Self-Assembled Monolayer

The thermal properties of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) were investigated using SThM. SAMs with 1 μm wide linear patterns of n-butanethiol and n-hexadecanethiol were fabricated on Au(111) using microcontact printing method. The spatial distribution of temperature on the SAM was measured using SThM. We found that SThM can visualize the molecular patterns of n-butanethiol and n-hexadecanethiol with higher spatial resolution than conventional contact-mode AFM.
