Organic molecules are considered to be superior quantum dots due to the nanometer-scale uniformity and the discrete molecular orbitals. We have achieved single-carrier tunneling induced by molecules embedded in a metal-insulator-semiconductor structure, where the structure works as a double tunnel junction. In this talk, we present a vertically-aligned single-carrier transistor based on our previous achievements, namely the double tunnel junction with molecules behaves as a transistor channel.
