Keywords:thin film, surface physics

As the name suggests, the Thin Film and Surface Physics Division is a community of researchers and engineers who are interested in the physics, science, and technology of thin films and surfaces, and was established in 1970 with the aim of contributing to the development of the field. The forerunner of this division dates back to 1965, when the Thin Film Surface Physics Group Meeting was established within the Japan Society of Applied Physics. We hope that this symposium will provide an opportunity to look back on our activities over the past half century and to discuss issues and expectations for the next 50 years.
