Frontier electronics was coined by Professor Isamu Akasaki, and uses new compound semiconductor materials that replace silicon and GaAs, especially nitride semiconductors, in the optical wavelength range, operating temperature range, high frequency range, and so on, where there was no semiconductor that could operate. It shows electronics that operate in the high output power range and exhibit new functionality that was not possible with conventional semiconductors. I would like to thank Professor Akasaki for leaving such a legacy, and while tracing his thoughts as a researcher, I will discuss the direction we should take in the future.
