Bi2O3-containing silicate glasses, which has small photoelasticity and high refractive index, the optical bandgap changes dramatically when fluorine is incorporated. On the other hand, the effect of fluorine doping on borate glass remains unclear. In addition, the correlation between the elastic modulus of each oxide glasses and fluorine might lead to the development of functional glasses that are not mechanically fragile. In this talk, we will compare the fluorine doping effects on the optical and mechanical properties of silicate and borate glasses and will show different vibration modes by means of transmitted infrared spectra.
