Optical phased array is a non-mechanical beam steering device that is receiving strong attention due to its unique advantages such as high reliability. On the other hand, in previous devices, the number of resolvable points is only proportional to the number of ports. Thus, when we try to realize high-resolution imaging, phase control becomes a significant issue. In this work, we propose that by employing the non-redundant array concept, we can achieve a large number of resolvable points that scale with the square of the number of ports. We used an integrated silicon optical phased array to demonstrate the concept.
