In order to realize a high-speed high-reliability optical switch for network systems, we have been studying the DFB laser, one of the tunable semiconductor lasers, which can realize high-speed wavelength switching by changing the injected current. However, the high injection current would cause serious degradation of the laser reliability. In this paper, to realize a both high-speed and high-reliability wavelength switching, we applied the injection current/temperature cooperative control. we successfully demonstrated a 400-GHz-wide wavelength switching, the maximum tuning range of a single DFB laser in the TLA, toward a lower optical frequency within a short time of 130 ms as well as that toward a higher optical frequency within a short time of 94 ms. In addition, the injection current required to maintain low frequencies has been reduced from 402mA to 52mA, which greatly improved reliability of DFB lasers.
