[12p-N105-8] Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube Composites as Artificial Joint Materials
Keywords:multiwalled carbon nanotubes, ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene, artificial joint
Since UHMWPE is susceptible to frictional wear when used in sliding members of artificial joints, it is common practice to use cross-linked UHMWPE instead. However, cross-linked UHMWPE has low impact resistance; implant breakage has been reported in some cases. MWCNT/UHMWPE composites are expected to be safe for clinical applications as the first material for sliding members of artificial joints having both high abrasion resistance and high impact resistance.
