From the environmental point of view, the visible light driven hydrogen evolution reaction is one of the promising techniques for the sustainable society. Recently, it has been reported that the introduction of plasmoic nanostructures onto the wide-band gap semiconductor electrode allows to to add the visible light response ability, resulting in the efficient visible light-induced multi electron transfer reactions. In this study, we have clarified the unique reaction property of the plasmonic cathode electrode which consist of the p-type semiconductor electrode and plasmonic nanostructures through the examination of the isotopic effects on the hydrogen evolution reactions. Furthermore, we have attempted to functionalize the electrode performance by the addition of the molecular catalyst.
