▼ [12p-N405-9] Electro-Optic Detection for Terahertz Electric Field Contraction around Relativistic Electron Beams
Keywords:Electro-optic sampling, Theory of relativity, Electron beam
For over a century, a lot of experiments have been conducted to verify the theory of relativity for a century. However, the electric field contraction around a relativistic electron, which is one of the most fundamental features of the special theory of relativity in electromagnetism, has not yet been visualized. Here it is predicted that the electric field around the ultrafast electrons shrinks in the propagation direction and propagates in the radial direction. Electro-optic (EO) sampling has paved a way to access sub-picosecond terahertz electro dynamics. EO sampling has been applied to obtain temporal electric field profile of charged particles for two decades. In this study, we measured the spatio-temporal electric field profile around a relativistic electron beam by EO sampling and demonstrated the electric field’s contraction.
