Poly(heptazine imide) (PHI) not only shows high photocatalytic performance in the visible light range, but also shows an unprecedented photocatalytic function, dark photocatalytic activity, in which light energy is stored in the light state and hydrogen is generated in the dark state. In general, dark photocatalytic activity is considered to occur by passing through a state called charge accumulation. We have investigated the charge accumulation, which plays an important role in the dark photocatalytic activity of PHI, from the aspect of the photo-responses in PHI.
