Investigation of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) under isotope mixing conditions have been widely used to understand molecular processes on electrodes, in addition to industrial perspectives such as isotope separation. In this study, it was clarified that HER on nano-structured Ni greatly increases the selectivity of deuterium production compared to normal Ni. Electrochemical measurements and kinetic studies suggest that the deuterium adsorption process of HER on the nano-structured surface is selectively accelerated.
