Recently, an attention has been paid to a method of ‘Bioassay’ which utilize micro-organism to evaluate the toxicity of environmental pollution. In this study, a zoo plankton, Paramecium caudatum, was used and correlation time of biospeckle patterns was analyzed to evaluate a biological activity under environmental conditions. With the proposed method, the individual plankton does not have to be distinguished but the dynamic characteristics of many planktons as an ensemble were examined. In the experiments, Paramecium caudatums were kept at temperature of 5 degree and kept at room temperature. The initial measurement at 5 degree showed correlation time was 0.62 sec and became 0.19 sec after one hour. This implies that the movement activities of the plankton were relatively low at low temperature and gradually increased to that in room temperature. Therefore our proposed method could evaluate the toxicity of the environment using plankton.
