A key challenge in cardiology is the non invasive imaging of electric current propagation occurring in the cardiovascular system at an intra-cardiac scale. The conventional electrical approach suffers from deformation of the signal due to inhomogeneous electrical conductiviey of the body, while a magnetic approach allows directly mapping the current dynamics. In this talk, I will discuss a method for millimetre scale magnetocardiography of living mammalian animals using a solid state quantum sensor based on nitrogen vacancy centres in diamond.
