Surface phonon polariton (SPhP) can be excited at the surface of SiC by near-field generated at the apex of the very sharp probe in scattering scanning near-field optical microscope (s-SNOM). By depositing metal on SiC to reflect travelling SPhP wave and interfer with itself, SPhP standing wave vibrating perpendicular to sample surface can be formed, and previous research have reported the out-of-plane vibration images of SPhP. Here in this work, we report the in-plane wave-like images of SPhP, and considering that SPhP has no in-plane vibration component, the gotten results are presumed to be the gradient of SPhP standing wave. And the fact that peaks and troughs are opposite between the in-plane images and out-of-plane images, which further reinforce our confidence. Our results will not only be benefit to the understanding of SPhP but also demonstrating the possibility of coupling graident of waves with in-plane polarized near-field.
