Keywords:perpendicular magnetic anisotropy

Co-ferrite has been utilized as a magnet. Recent development of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) in CoFe2O4 opens up the application for spintronics devices. However, the origin of the PMA has not been clarified yet. In this presentation, we aim to discuss the element-specific orbital magnetic moments in CoFe2O4 using x-ray magnetic circular and linear dichroisms. We found the enhancement of orbital magnetic moments in Co in the case of PMA compared with the case of in-plane anisotropy, which corresponds to the PMA from the spectral and theoretical analyses.
