Improving the crystallinity of semiconducting polymer is important for increasing the efficiency of organic photovoltaics (OPV). In this work, in order to improve the OPV efficiency of a thiazolothiazole polymer (PTzBT), which is a highly crystalline polymer, we synthesized PTzBTE by introducing ester group. With the intramolecular non-covalent interaction between the ester-oxygen and the thiazole-sulfur, PTzBTE is expected to have the higher crystallinity compared to PTzBT. We investigated the impact of the ester group introduced in the thiazolothiazole polymer on the energy levels, crystallinities and photovoltaic properties of fullerene and non-fullerene based devices.
