REBa2Cu3Oy (RE123) melt-textured bulks are pseudo-single crystals grown from seed crystals during the slow cooling process from a partially molten state. Its bulks are expected to be used for strong superconducting magnets due to its high Jc even under high magnetic fields. However the larger the ionic radius of RE3+ in RE123, the more likely it is to form RE1+xBa2-xCu3Oy solid solution, and it is important to control the amount of solid solution x. In this study, we prepared Gd123 melt-solidified bulks by Single-Direction Melt Growth (SDMG) method from precursor sintered pellets with different Ba compositions to control the solid solution content, and examined their physical properties.
