△ [16p-Z10-16] Noise measurement of microcomb for optical transmission application
Keywords:microresonator, microcomb, soliton comb
Since its first inception in 2007, microcombs, or frequency combs generated in micro resonator have revolutionized photonics more than ever. Especially, in 2014, mode-locked soliton comb was achieved enabling many applications such as optical spectroscopy, precise distance measurement, frequency synthesis, and so on. However, noise characteristics of these combs are still unknow to date.
In this talk, we demonstrate three comb state on silicon nitride (SiN) microring resonator; Turing pattern comb, modulation instability comb, and soliton comb. Then, we evaluate intensity noise and transmit data with each comb by means of intensity modulation-direct detection to see which comb state is suitable for transmission applications.
