We investigated the physical origin of spin Hall effect (SHE) in YPt, a Pt-based alloy with orthorhombic crystal structure. We observed a strong sensitivity of the spin Hall angle θSH to its resistivity, and revealed that the sensitivity was origenated from both the intrinsic mechanism and the extrinsic side-jump mechanism with opposite polarity. We also evaluated spin relaxation length λs from the thickness dependence of YPt, and that was ~3 times longer than that expected by assuming the Elliot-Yafet mechanism. Our result shows that spin Hall physics in YPt is different from that of conventional Pt-based alloys having the face-centered-cubic structure.
