Influenza virus transmitted through the sugar-chains on the cell membrane. Here, we focused on gangliosides, which are glycolipids present on the cell membrane, and investigated influenza virus infection using astrocytes established from transgenic mice that induce ganglioside synthesis abnormalities.
The results provided data suggesting that gangliosides do not affect the expression of viral receptor sugar-chains, but regulate any step in viral replication.
