Cosmic-ray imaging has been developed and used to take images of the interiors of big structures by capturing muons on nuclear plates. Muons form Ag nanoparticles on AgBrI grains in nuclear emulsions. Since it takes such a long time as several mongths to capture sufficient number of muons for imaging, long-term stabilization of Ag nanoparticles is an important subject. This study has been devoted to characterize the electronic structure of Ag nanoparticles for clarification of the mechanism of latent image fading, and to propose ideas to stabilize them for the enhancement of the performance of nuclear plates for cosmic-ray imaging.
