[16p-Z34-13] Constraints on accuracy in exposure dating of landforms by terrestrial cosmogenic nuclides

Keywords:exposure age, denudation, inheritance

This paper reviews principles and basic modeling in application of terrestrial cosmogenic nuclides for dating landforms. Several factors constraint the accuracy of the ages via shielding of cosmic rays, post-exposure denudation or sedimentation of the surfaces, as well as inheritance reflecting the pre-exposure history of the analyzed mineral grains. We demonstrate applicability and limitations of this method with some examples from the model outputs and applications.
