Solutions containing solid particles or insoluble liquid particles, such as dairy products, soups, beverages and paints, are frequently used in foods and industrial products. Since these suspensions (slurries, emulsions) strongly scatter light, quality inspection based on optical procedures without separation treatment was difficult. The back scattering characteristics of an aqueous solution with Al2O3 powders were evaluated using an optical fiber.
