A scintillator is a light-emitting type radiation detector. Emission lifetime and intensity are important for its performance, and these are in the relationship of trade-off. A high-intensity inorganic substance has a long lifetime. On the other hand, an organic substance having a short lifetime has potentially low intensity because it is composed of light elements thus the interaction with radiation is weak. In this study, we aimed to improve the scintillation characteristics of J-aggregates composed of organic pigments by adding bismuth which has a large interaction with radiation.
