[17p-Z01-9] Medical Application of Deep UV Light and Inactivation of Virus
Keywords:deep ultra-violet light, medical application, virus
Bacteria and viruses have a strong absorption band near the wavelength of 260 nm. Therefore, when irradiated with deep ultraviolet light of wavelengths before and after that, the bases that make up those DNAs are fragmented and bacteria and viruses are inactivated. Traditionally, mercury lamps that emit light at 254 nm have often been used for sterilization. However, this wavelength is known to cause damage to the human body. On the other hand, it was proved that far-deep ultraviolet light can be used to inactivate the virus efficiently with almost no damage to the human body, and SARS-CoV-2 can be inactivated by irradiation for several tens of seconds.
