レーザー光をレンズなどで集光すると、固体表面または内部の微細領域を簡単に破壊または接合することができる。そのため、レーザーは現在産業分野では欠かせない加工ツールとなっている。本シンポジウムで取り上げる「レーザー誘起周期構造生成」は、複数のレーザーパルスを固体に繰り返し照射したときに現れる。講演では現象の概観と筆者らが明らかにしてきたこと、今後の展望について述べる。
