In this study, we have performed in situ current measurement on thin films of the fullerene derivative PCBM during thermal vapor deposition of gold, and it was found that the conductance of PCBM thin films increases significantly from the early stage of the deposition, when gold cannot form a conduction path itself. From UPS spectra of PCBM thin films before and after Au-doping, it was found that new density-of-states near the Fermi level is induced by Au-doping. By the interaction between gold and PCBM a new electronic state will be formed and it works as a site for hopping conduction among Au/PCBM.
