For controllig the surface properties of materials, the immobilization of functional molecules as a molecular layer on a substrate surface is one effective method. In addition, utilizing stimulus-responsive molecules enables to realize switchable surface properties. In this study, we focused on the stimuli-responsive chemical bond change of anthracene moieties induced by light or heat. In this study, we have designed a stimulus-responsive molecular layer with an anthracene derivative for repeated control of surface properties by appling the reversible chemical bond change of anthracene. We fabricated photo/thermal responsive molecular layer consisted with anthracene moieties and investigated the surface conditions by contact angle measurements and atomic force microscopy observations.
