Optical tweezers based on metallic nanostructures1 have attracted attention due to their ability to enhance the gradient forces and make optical trapping more stable at the nanoscale. Among the various metallic nanostructures,1,2 Fano resonant nanosystems have emerged as potential candidates for improving the optical trapping performance.3,4 In this work, we use a Fano resonant, optical tweezers to sequentially trap 20 nm polystyrene particles. We investigate the multiple trapping events via trap stiffness measurements for various trapping configurations at low and high incident laser intensities. We show that subwavelength, dielectric nanoparticles can be transported to the plasmonic system by turning on and off the trapping laser beam and the particles are then trapped at a plasmonic hotspot, which is not necessarily that which provides the strongest optical forces. Our results provide an alternative approach to trap multiple nanoparticles at distinct hotspots, enabling ways to control mass transport on the nanoscale.
