In order to investigate the changes in the intensity distribution of the laser pulse due to non-linear optical interaction with ambient air and its effect on the laser ablation, we simulated the propagation of the gaussian beam near the focusing point by numerically solving the non-linear simultaneous propagation equations incorporating the third-order nonlinear effect and the ionization of air. As a result, we found that the peculiar behavior of the pulse energy dependence of the ablated depth was suppressed as a result of the nonlinear optical interaction with ambient air.
