[19a-Z22-5] Light trapping for photovoltaic cells for monochromatic illumination

Yasuhiko Takeda1 (1.Toyota Central R&D Labs.)

Keywords:optical power transmission, optical filter, solar cell

We designed photovoltaic cells specialized for optical power transmission, in which the illumination condition is extremely different from that for solar cells. When monochromatic light is incident from a certain direction, the combination of angular-selective filter on the front face and a diffuse reflector on the rear face traps the incident light, which enables the use of a thinner absorbing layer, resulting in a reduction in the nonradiative recombination. In addition, the emission is also trapped, which suppresses the radiative recombination. Consequently, the conversion efficiency improves by 10% compared to PV cells with conventional light-trapping structures.
