We propose and demonstrate photonic reservoir computing (RC) utilizing a power-efficient membrane semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). Directly reflecting SOA's low power consumption and saturation at low input power, the reservoir shows a significant nonlinear response with 33-mW power consumption and 160-μW average input optical power. Despite such a small power scale, our RC exhibits good performance on a chaotic time-series prediction task which is widely used as a benchmark. These results indicate that our membrane SOAs are promising as a power-efficient nonlinear element for photonic RC.
