▲ [20a-C105-10] Enhancement of plasmonic gold nanocomposite in self-powered photoelectrochemical sensor for glucose detection
Keywords:photoelectrochemical glucose sensor, nanocomposite, plasmonic
In this work, the photoelectrochemical (PEC) technique, incorporating the synergetic advantages of optical and electrochemical sensing, was conducted for the quantification of glucose in alkaline media using gold nanoparticles/poly(3,4−ethylenedioxythiophene):poly (styrenesulfonate) (AuNPs/PEDOT:PSS) nanocomposite modified ITO coated glass substrate as a working electrode. The nanocomposite film was simply prepared by cyclic voltammetry in which PEDOT:PSS was firstly electro-polymerized on an ITO substrate and AuNPs were subsequently electro-deposited on the PEDOT:PSS surface to obtain the proposed sensing (Figure 1A). The optical and electrochemical properties of the electrode were also characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and chronoamperometry. The chronoamperometric response of the proposed sensor exhibits great photocurrents upon each glucose addition without an external applied potential (0.00 V). Furthermore, the signal responses are proportional to the concentration of glucose revealing a good linear relationship and the sensitivity significantly improved under irradiated the solar light condition (Figure 1B). The photocurrent enhancements represent the potential of the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) excitation of AuNPs, which generates hot photocarriers, approach to improve the efficiency of glucose detection. In addition, the developed sensing exhibits satisfied selectivity and good stability which could be beneficial for the determination of glucose as a self-powered sensor.
