Here in this work, we have developed gold nanoparticle coated enzyme based fiber optic localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) biosensor for the detection of pesticides. Primary amine (cysteamine) capped gold nanoparticle is synthesized. Surface chemistry has been optimized to uniformly coat silicate optical fiber with synthesized gold nanoparticles. Acetylcholinesterase enzyme is chosen as bioreceptor. Organophosphate and carbamate classes of pesticides bind to it and inhibit enzyme activity. The enzyme has been covalently immobilized to gold nanoparticles coated on fiber. The physiological condition of glutaraldehyde crosslinker has been optimized to achieve positive results. An experimental limit of 1 ppb has been achieved with the developed sensor for detecting chlorpyrifos (organophosphate class of pesticides). The developed sensor has shown selectivity against potential interferents.
